QPR v Reading player ratings

QPR got their season off to an excellent start by beating Reading at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 victory.

Alex Smithies: 7

The Rangers goalkeeper had nothing to do in the first half, but showed no signs of rustiness as he denied Jon Dadi Bodvarsson an equaliser soon after the restart.

James Perch: 6

Put in a solid display at right-back and contributed going forward, although he was caught out once or twice by balls over the top.

Nedum Onuoha: 7

One error by the QPR skipper early in the second half almost allowed Reading back into the game, but there weren’t too many others over the course of 90 minutes.

Joel Lynch: 6

Looked uncomfortable against Bodvarsson, who easily turned him on the halfway line early on, but was relatively untroubled once the Icelandic forward had hobbled off.

Jake Bidwell: 6

As so often, Bidwell got the tackles in and got forward when required – but did nothing that could be labelled either spectacular or disastrous.

Pawel Wsolek: 8

A bright performance by the winger, who supplied the cross for Conor Washington to head Rangers’ opener and was wrestled to the ground by Tiago Iloro to earn the penalty which led to the second goal.

Josh Scowen: 6

Rangers’ only summer signing slotted into midfield seamlessly, showing plenty of energy and the ability to get stuck in as and when needed.

Massimo Luongo: 7

After a slow start, Luongo became more influential as the game progressed and was unlucky not to score when his low drive zipped past Vito Mannone but hit the inside of the post.

Luke Freeman: 7

Freeman’s deft back-heel initiated the move that led to Washington’s first goal, but he should have added his own name to the scoresheet, firing two chances wide of the target.

Conor Washington: 8

While Washington did squander opportunities – notably a shot he blazed over just before half-time – it didn’t appear to affect the striker’s confidence and he took both of his goals with panache.

Jamie Mackie: 9

A thorn in Reading’s side all afternoon, chasing and harrying defenders, exuding enthusiasm throughout, and could easily have racked up four or five assists.
