QPR duo Barton and Mutch remain sidelined

QPR midfielders Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch have been ruled out of Monday’s game against Aston Villa.

Both players have been sidelined with hamstring problems and remain unavailable, while Sandro will be assessed ahead of the match after picking up a groin injury during Sunday’s defeat against Liverpool.

It leaves Rangers potentially short of options in midfield for a game they badly need to win following a dismal start to the season which has left them bottom of the table after eight matches.

However, they are confident defender Nedum Onuoha will recover from a hamstring strain in time.

“We’re still waiting really. We’ve got a few injuries we picked up last weekend,” said boss Harry Redknapp.

“Nedum Onuoha picked up a hamstring injury when he was playing excellent. He had to come off at half-time and Sandro had a groin injury.

“The others who were not fit are still not fit. Lots of players haven’t been available and it’s been difficult.”

Goalkeeper Rob Green has recovered from illness and must wait to see if he is restored to the side.

Summer signing Alex McCarthy made his R’s debut against Liverpool and impressed.
