Hasselbaink admits surprise at Leeds change

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has admitted he was surprised by how Leeds lined up for Tuesday’s 1-1 draw.

Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances at Elland Road, which Hasselbaink felt was partly down to a tactical switch by Leeds boss Steve Evans.

“They changed their side to five in the middle – it’s normally four,” the Dutchman explained.

“Since their manager has been there he has always started with two strikers, so we thought they were going to have two strikers on.

“But they made it very difficult for us to be fluid, to pass the ball and be dominant. Fair play to them.”

Tjaronn Chery’s 87th-minute penalty earned a point for QPR after Chris Wood had put the home side ahead on the hour mark.

But Rangers fear Jamie Mackie, who went off in the first half after suffering another hamstring injury, could be facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
