Hasselbaink rules out loan move for QPR youngster

Teenage winger Olamide Shodipo will not be sent out on loan by QPR and will be part of their squad for the coming season, according to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Shodipo, who recently turned 19, is yet to make his league debut but has featured prominently during Rangers’ pre-season campaign following the departures of Matt Phillips and Junior Hoilett.

Rangers are keen to sign at least one winger before the new season begins, but manager Hasselbaink says Republic of Ireland Under-19 international Shodipo is part of his plans.

“He’s not going to go on loan – he’s going to stay with me,” the Dutchman declared.

“We want to bring players through from the youth system if they’re good enough. We definitely think he’s good enough to be part of the squad.

“Obviously he’s young and we need to take care of him. You have to be careful with your young players.

“But I’m happy with him and I can see him getting minutes. He’s definitely part of my squad.”

Shodipo is expected to also be involved in Friday’s friendly at Wycombe.
