No doubts over QPR midfielder Fer’s long-term fitness, says Ramsey

Chris Ramsey has insisted there are no doubts about Leroy Fer’s long-term fitness despite the QPR midfielder failing a medical at Sunderland.

Fer’s proposed loan move to the Stadium of Light was scrapped because of his ongoing knee trouble – a problem he aggravated, ironically, while playing for Rangers at Sunderland last season.

The Netherlands international, 25, is unavailable for this weekend’s league opener against Charlton but head coach Ramsey says he is confident Fer will feature for QPR in the Championship before long.

“Obviously he’s not ready, but we haven’t got any major concerns about his injury,” Ramsey said.

“He’s been very professional and makes sure he’s in shape to train as hard as he possibly can.

“I’m looking forward to getting him back and in the team – and he’s wants to play.

“I think it’ll be two or three weeks but I don’t want to put a figure on it. I don’t think it’s long term.”

West Ham have also expressed an interest in Fer, who joined QPR from Norwich City a year ago.
