Redknapp warns of difficult striker search

Harry Redknapp says QPR will not find it easy to sign a striker during the January transfer window.

The Rangers boss wants at least one forward and is looking to finalise a deal for Jermain Defoe, having been unable to agree the former Tottenham man’s release from FC Toronto during the final hours of the previous transfer window.

Rangers are aiming to bring in players on initial loans with a view to permanent deals once Premier League safety is secured.

But Redknapp said: “Where are you going to find a striker on loan? Who’s going to loan you a good striker?

“People will come up with names who are useless; ‘Harry, what about him?’ Yeah, good luck.”

Rangers are hugely reliant on top scorer Charlie Austin, while Bobby Zamora’s appearances have been restricted by an ongoing hip condition.

And Redknapp says summer signing Eduardo Vargas has been more effective on the wing than up front.

“Bobby’s been fantastic for us. Without Bobby we wouldn’t be in the Premier League to start with,” Redknapp said.

“But you need strikers – you need four strikers at the club. You need to be able to change, bring a couple of fresh ones on with a bit of pace and get behind people, give them a problem.

“I can’t do that. We haven’t got it. We haven’t got anyone to freshen it up. I’ve got Bobby and Charlie.

“The little boy Vargas looks happier when he’s out on the right. I’ve only got two strikers and it’s not enough.”
