Hoddle ‘happy at QPR’ as Magpies are linked
Glenn Hoddle has distanced himself from speculation that he could take over at Newcastle.
The former England boss, been part of QPR manager Harry Redknapp’s coaching staff since August, has been linked with the job at St James’ Park in the wake of Alan Pardew’s departure for Crystal Palace.
However, speaking to Zapsportz.com, a website Hoddle co-founded, he said: “There has been a lot of speculation. The media have been chasing me for a reaction to being heavily linked to the vacant Newcastle job.
“All I am prepared to say is that I’m really enjoying the challenge of trying to keep QPR up this season. Although I have never shut the door on management, I’m happy doing what I’m doing now with QPR.
“Harry gave me the chance to tip my toe back into the coaching water and I’m up for the challenge.
“I’ve enjoyed working with Harry and the team and I’ve enjoyed working with Harry and the staff.
“I’m looking forward to the second half of the season and the challenges that will bring in our attempt to stay up.”
And Hoddle says he is optimistic Rangers, who face a crucial game at Burnley this weekend, will stay in the top flight.
“We’re on 19 points at the halfway stage. If we can do slightly better in the second half of the season, I think it will be enough to keep our Premier League status,” he said.
