Washington must be patient in search for QPR goal – JFH

QPR striker Conor Washington

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged Conor Washington not to lose heart in his search for his first QPR goal.

Washington, signed from Peterborough in January following Charlie Austin’s departure, failed to score in his 15 appearances for Rangers last season, eight of which were as a substitute.

And his wait for a goal continued when he blasted against the bar in Tuesday’s friendly at Burton after being teed up by Nasser El Khayati.

Rangers boss Hasselbaink, himself a former striker, said: “Of course it’s frustrating when you are a striker and you cannot score.

“He has to wait and be patient. You have to keep going, keep on making the runs and knocking on the door, and it will come.

“It’s just one of those things. When the first one goes in and then the second one, they can go flying in.”

‘Work to be done’

Hasselbaink wants to add another forward and at least one winger to his squad but insists Rangers are in decent shape ahead of the new Championship season.

“I’ve been pleased. We are getting there and the understanding is getting there as well,” he said.

“There’s still work to be done. It’s about making sure that we keep on improving and keep on making the team strong.”
