Ward leaves Burton to take QPR backroom role

Loftus Road

QPR have added former Cardiff, Leicester and Stoke goalkeeper Gavin Ward to their backroom staff.

Ward joins from Burton Albion, where he had been goalkeeping coach under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and has now followed the Dutchman to Loftus Road.

The 45-year-old has also coached at Chester, Shrewsbury and Nottingham Forest and was assistant manager at non-League Gainsborough Trinity.

Ward played for 14 clubs during his 21 years as a professional, including 17 appearances in the Premier League while at Leicester and Bolton in the mid-1990s. He also helped Stoke win the Football League Trophy in 2000.

Ward’s former Burton colleague David Oldfield also moved with Hasselbaink to QPR.
