Luongo believes he has proved a point

QPR’s Massimo Luongo has told the Australian Associated Press he believes he has proved he can operate as a defensive midfielder.

Luongo was deployed mainly in an attacking role before being told to change by former Rangers manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who wanted him to improve the defensnive side of his game.

The Australia international has continued to impress under current R’s boss Ian Holloway and says he is now perceived differently.

“Every manager I’ve had thinks I’m an attacking player and that I can’t defend, or I don’t want to defend, which is just completely false,” Luongo said.

“I’ve just been in teams where they don’t ask me to defend. It’s good’ I’m clearing that up that I can do both.

“So I’ve been getting on the ball and making us tick a little bit, or trying to. He (Holloway) says that’s where he sees me.”
