Townsend talk is ‘dreamland’ says Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has again claimed that there is no chance of QPR signing Andros Townsend from Tottenham during the January transfer window.

Rangers have been keen to capture the 23-year-old winger since he impressed while on loan at Loftus Road the season before last.

But with the club looking to sign players on initial loans with a view to possible permanent deals if Premier League safety is achieved, Redknapp has suggested that Townsend is not a realistic target.

He said: “Andros certainly would [be a good signing]. So would lots of players but it’s all dreamland getting them players.

“Andros belongs to Tottenham and we’re looking for loans. We can’t be buying players like Andros at the moment. It’s not possible.”

Redknapp is keen to sign at least one striker when the transfer window reopens as he is currently short of attacking options.

“It’s a difficult one. Really we’re looking for loans, not to spend money in the window,” he added.

“We bought some players in the summer so now we’ve got a good squad and are looking to get a couple of loan players in.”
