Reeves lined up to join Penrice at QPR

Former Manchester City and Norwich striker Kevin Reeves is set to take up a scouting role at QPR.

Ex-R’s forward Gary Penrice is being lined up for a return to Loftus Road as chief scout and is likely to link up with Reeves, who worked with him at Everton and Wigan.

Reeves previously scouted for Stoke and had a similar role at Swansea where he worked for Roberto Martinez, who subsequently took him to Wigan and then Everton.

The 59-year-old won two England caps during a playing career which ended in 1984, when he was 26, because of a hip injury.

He later coached at Burnley, Birmingham, Wrexham and Swansea before moving into scouting.

Four things about Kevin Reeves

At Swansea, he played a major role in the club’s signings of Angel Rangel, Jordi Gomez and Ferrie Bodde

At Wigan, he was largely responsible for the signings of James McArthur, James McCarthy and Arouna Kone

• He has frequently scouted in Scotland, alerting Swansea to Jason Scotland, who was at St Johnstone, and Wigan to McArthur and McCarthy, who were both at Hamilton

Reeves was a Manchester City team-mate of former QPR star Clive Wilson

Penrice, who spent four years as a player at QPR, has been scouting for West Brom since leaving Everton.

He was assistant manager for part of Ian Holloway’s first spell as Rangers boss and was previously his right-hand man at Bristol Rovers.

Penrice and Holloway have been friends since childhood, were team-mates at Rovers and QPR and also worked together at Plymouth.

Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand, who also played alongside Penrice, has been keen to install a chief scout as part of a planned behind-the-scenes overhaul.

Penrice, 52, played for Watford and spent a season at Aston Villa before being reunited with Holloway and Gerry Francis at QPR in 1991.

Francis, then Rangers boss and currently first-team coach at West Brom, had managed the pair at Bristol Rovers.

Penrice made 95 appearances for the R’s, scoring 21 goals, before returning to Watford in 1995.
