Perch in no rush to resolve QPR future

QPR defender James Perch will not press the club for a new contract before his current deal runs out in the summer.

Perch, who has just returned to the side after nearly six months out injured, is one of several players whose contracts expire at the end of the current campaign.

But the 32-year-old hopes a run of solid performances between now and May will persuade Rangers to offer him a deal for next season.

“Obviously I’m not getting any younger – the main thing is to stay fit, hopefully play until the end of the season and see what happens at the end of it,” Perch told West London Sport.

“I’m not putting any pressure on anybody to offer contracts or anything like that. I’m just going to do what I can and hopefully that’ll be enough.

“Nothing’s been spoken about and I never expected it to be. I’ve been injured for nearly six months, so I never expected anybody to come and talk to me about contracts. Now I’m fit and playing again, who knows?”

Perch featured regularly for Rangers in each of his first two years at the club.

But the dislocated kneecap he suffered against Hull last August left him fearing he would not play again this season.

“At first I thought that was it, my season was finished,” Perch recalled. “When I got home that night my knee was massive. Luckily I’d just dislocated and fractured it.

“But the medical staff here have done really well and I’ve been back in training six to eight weeks, so I’ve shaved some time off what the surgeons gave me.

“That’s still probably the longest spell I’ve had out since I started at 16. I’m lucky in that sense that I haven’t had too many injuries, but it’s good to be back.”
