Doyle’s QPR deal ‘would have to be right’

Harry Redknapp has cast some doubt over whether QPR will go through with the permanent signing of Kevin Doyle from Wolves.

The Irish striker, 30, made nine appearances for Rangers during an injury-interrupted loan spell, scoring two goals, and was involved in the play-off triumph that saw them win promotion back to the Premier League.

Wolves are keen to get Doyle off their wage bill, while Redknapp has made it clear he is interested in a permanent deal.

But the Rangers boss is also aware that he will be restricted to a squad of 25, with the club keen to re-sign some out-of-contract players as well as spend on new additions to the squad.

Redknapp said: “I like Kevin. He’s proved it at the highest level. You know what you’re getting.

“He worked his socks off for us – but it would have to be the right deal.”

Signed by Wolves for £6.5m in 2009, Doyle previously scored 55 goals in 154 league appearances during a four-year spell at Reading, who signed him from Cork City.
