Doyle has setback after returning to training

QPR have been dealt another injury blow after striker Kevin Doyle suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee problem.

The Irishman, on loan from Wolves, limped off during Rangers’ recent win at Birmingham but the club were confident he would soon be back in action.

He was hoping to feature this week but complained of pain after returning to training and has been sent to see a specialist.

His continued absence is a problem for Rangers given that he was signed as a short-term replacement for top scorer Charlie Austin, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

“Kevin is going to see a specialist and we’re waiting for the report on that,” said R’s boss Harry Redknapp.

“He tried training this week and didn’t feel so great. I don’t know how long he’ll now be out for.

“I hope it’s not too bad, but until he sees the specialist I wouldn’t like to guess.”

On a brighter note for Rangers, Austin is well on course to return before the end of the season.
