Dismal draw confirms QPR’s relegation

Reading 0 QPR 0

QPR’s relegation was confirmed at the Madejski Stadium – and they did not go down fighting.

A dismal goalless draw, which also confirmed Reading’s drop back to the Championship, just about summed up Rangers’ ‘efforts’ this season.

They were slightly the better side in a turgid first half in which the Royals appealed in vain for a penalty after Stephen Kelly went down under a challenge from Jose Bosingwa.

At the other end, Esteban Granero’s free-kick struck the top of the bar and Jay Bothroyd sent a lob wide of the target after being put through by Stephane Mbia.

Adel Taarabt, playing behind a front two of Bothroyd and Loic Remy, missed decent chances for QPR early in the second half, twice miscuing after being found unmarked.

And Pavel Pogrebnyak squandered a great opportunity for Reading, side-footing wide after going past the hapless Bosingwa.

QPR (4-1-2-1-2) Green; Bosingwa (Fabio 73), Onuoha, Hill, Traore; Granero; Mbia (Mackie 88), Jenas; Taarabt (Hoilett 69); Remy, Bothroyd.
Subs not used: Cesar, Ben Haim, Derry, Park.
