Carroll hoping he has a future at Tottenham

Tom Carroll says he is determined to force his way into the Tottenham side after his spell at QPR.

The midfielder, who is on a season-long loan from the north London club, returned to action against Bournemouth this week after two months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Carroll, 21, faces a tough task in trying to establish himself at White Hart Lane given the influx of big-money signings.

And QPR’s former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has indicated that he will look to sign him on a permanent deal if Spurs are willing to let him go at the end of the campaign.

But Carroll hopes he can follow in the footsteps of Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend, who have stepped up to first-team level at Tottenham and played for England since their respective loan spells at Loftus Road.

“I think that’s got to be my aim. I’m a Tottenham player still and I’d love to play there if I can,” said Carroll.

“Kyle and Andros had great loan spells here and for me that’s nice to see. They’re now both playing for Spurs and involved with England so if I could do the same I’d be chuffed to bits.

“My goal is just to play here this year and, being contracted to Spurs, I’ve got to wait and see what the plans are there. I’m sure the two clubs will speak. It’s not really my call.

“It is difficult, obviously, to play at Spurs as they’ve got a great squad of international players. It’s going to be hard to break through but I’ve got to keep trying and see what happens.”

In the shorter-term, Carroll’s aim is to win his first major silverware by helping Rangers to the Championship title.

The 3-0 victory against Bournemouth took them up to second, level on points with leaders Leicester.

Carroll explained: “My goal is to play well here and get us up.

“It would be my first major medal. I’ve won a few international tournaments with Tottenham – Under-16s, Under-17s and stuff – but obviously that’s nothing like a Championship winners’ medal.”
