World Team joy for McCarroll and Whiley

Ickenham’s Marc McCarroll and Jordanne Whiley both helped Great Britain win medals at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Turkey.

McCarroll was part of the GB squad that won gold in the men’s World Group for the first time, though he only played in one doubles rubber during the tournament and was not used in the knockout stages.

The 30-year-old, partnering Dave Phillipson, secured a straight sets win in the group phase victory over Belgium.

Whiley, pictured, played in four matches as Britain picked up a bronze medal in the women’s World Group.

The 22-year-old won both her singles matches in the group stage but lost to Jiske Griffioen in her semi-final rubber as Britain were beaten.

They regrouped to beat Germany in the bronze medal match, with Whiley securing the point that guaranteed her side a medal.
