Whiley 2016

Ickenham’s Jordanne Whiley clinched her second singles title of 2016 and the fourth of her career when she beat top seed and world number three Aniek van Koot at the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge.

Whiley went through the tournament without dropping a set and claimed three victories against fellow top 10-ranked players.

The 23-year-old, who was the second seed, then beat van Koot 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 in the final.

Whiley said: “I’m really happy with my performance this week especially as I’m coming back from injury.

“I’ve been working on some new stuff at home and this just shows it’s paying off.”

Eastcote’s Andy Lapthorne finished runner-up in the quad singles for the second successive year.

He beat former world number one Nick Taylor in his opening match and also overcame fellow Brit and doubles partner Jamie Burdekin in the semi-finals, before taking world number two David Wagner to a deciding set.

Whiley and Lapthorne are next in action at the South African Open, which takes place in early April.
