Murray makes history with fifth Queen’s Club title

Queen's final court

Andy Murray staged a brilliant comeback at Queen’s Club on Sunday to win a record fifth Aegon Championships crown after an absorbing final.

The British number one was a set and a break down to world number nine Milos Raonic, who had not dropped his serve during the tournament.

However, Murray won eight out of nine games to not only win the second set but also take command early in the third.

And he saw it out confidently with some impressive serving to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 to make history in west London.

The first set was dominated by the serve, with five of the opening seven games being held to love.

It was no surprise when it went to a tie-break, which Raonic pinched 7-5, having been 5-2 up.

Murray’s sluggishness at the start of the second set was punished fully by the Canadian, who raced into a 3-0 lead.

But the Scot’s mental fortitude can never be questioned and he reeled off five games in a row – breaking the previously impregnable Raonic serve twice in the process, including with a sublime return winner.

After closing out the set, Murray kept a grip on proceedings by breaking in the opening game of the decider.

His own serve looked rock solid, with Raonic unable to really land a glove on the top seed

And, although he missed out on two championship points after mis-timed lobs, Murray was able to celebrate when Raonic netted – and he joins the honours board at Queen’s for a fifth time.
