Martin Gould produced a magnificent century to pull within one frame of Ding Junhui as he trailed 5-4 in their World Championship first-round match.

The Pinner Potter, seeded 12th, played his part in an entertaining first session at the Crucible in Sheffield on Wednesday morning.

Ding, who had to qualify for the tournament, scored four half-centuries and a 110 to lead 4-1 and then 5-3.

But Gould, 34, finished with a flourish, pulling off some breathtaking pots and taking advantage of an outrageous fluke on the final blue as part of a remarkable clearance.

The match plays to a finish on Wednesday evening.
