Martin Gould exited the General Cup in Hong Kong on Wednesday after a 4-1 defeat to Joe Perry.

Pinner’s world number 24 had made a good start to the round-robin group phase by beating Zhang Anda on Monday.

However a defeat to Michael White on Tuesday left him needing to beat Perry to qualify for the semi-finals – and he was unable to do so.

After world number 10 Perry had opened with a break of 63, Gould levelled by winning the second frame – but that was as good as it got.

Perry, a one-time World Championship semi-finalist, closed the match out with a break of 52.

Gould is next in action at the prestigious UK Championship next Tuesday, when he faces world number 111 Allan Taylor.
