Gould’s Hong Kong hopes in balance after whitewash

Martin Gould suffered a 4-0 whitewash to world number 16 Michael White at the General Cup in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

The Pinner Potter had made two centuries, including a 136 in the deciding frame, to win his first round-robin match against China’s Zhang Anda on Monday.

But White, a World Championship quarter-finalist in 2013, was in control of this one after breaks of 69 and 50 saw him take the opening two frames.

With the four-player group wide open, and two to qualify for the semi-finals, it means Gould will have to beat Joe Perry on Wednesday and hope other results go his way to progress.
