Gould hits century in Shootout victory

Martin Gould made the first century break of this year’s Betway Snooker Shootout as he reached the last 16 in Blackpool.

The Pinner potter, who won the quickfire event in 2013, rattled in 116 in his single-frame second-round match against Rory McLeod.

Earlier on Thursday, Gould had much the better of a scrappier game against David Gilbert, winning 62-11.

The Snooker Shootout, revived in 2011, is a cross between the Pot Black and Big Break TV shows, with each match decided by a 10-minute frame, with a shot clock regulating the action.

Players wear short-sleeved shirts with their names on the back and the crowd are welcome to call out between shots.

Gould, who scored 104 in the final against Mark Allen two years ago, will go into the open draw for Friday’s third round.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Selby and John Higgins were among the top players knocked out in the early rounds.
