Martin Gould moved into the second round of the UK Championships in York with a 6-2 win over Allan Taylor on Tuesday.

The Pinner Potter won four frames in a row, including a break of 108, to seal victory over world number 111 and practice partner Taylor.

The pair went into the interval at 2-2, Gould frustrated in frame three when his break of 61 was not enough to clinch it.

But the world number 24 refocused and was pleased with his form as he eased to a comfortable win.

Gould told West London Sport: “I’m delighted with it [the performance]. It was a bit scrappy in the first four frames but I knew if I got into some kind of rhythm, I’m capable of throwing off frames very quickly.

“After the interval, once I got one opportunity that was it, it was end of frame.

“It’s never easy playing a friend of mine. We’ve practiced together so that’s probably why the first four frames were a bit scrappy.”

Gould will play either Gary Wilson or Martin O’Donnell in the second round on Saturday, hoping to win two matches at the tournament for the first time.
