Judo star McKenzie wins gold medal

Willesden’s Ashley McKenzie won gold for England in the men’s judo 60kg class at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 25-year-old prevailed in an edgy battle of wits with Navjot Chana of India by securing a shido penalty victory.

McKenzie, who represented Great Britain at the London Olympics two years ago, recently returned to action following an injury.

Earlier in the day, Hounslow badminton player Rajiv Ouseph beat Tony Stephenson to help England crush Northern Ireland in their opening match of the Games.
