Ruislip Eagles reach National Cup semis

Ruislip Eagles maintained their push for two trophies as they edged out London rivals Olympia to reach the semi-finals of the EHA National Cup.

The Super 8 leaders held on to win 26-25 in Sunday’s tense quarter-final.

Eagles had taken a win and a draw from Olympia in two league meeting this season but they were second best in the early stages.

Olympia established a 7-3 lead in the first 15 minutes but words from coach Marc Fayemi seemed to inspire the west Londoners to an improved performance.

By the end of the first half, Ruislip had edged in front by one goal but it remained tight for the rest of the match.

Tensions rose when Olympia mounted a final attack to try and tie the game but great defensive work from the Eagles forced them to take a final shot from the wing that goalkeeper Alex Pechlivanis saved.

Fayemi said: “Olympia showed up with a strong and well balanced side.

“They started really well the game and pushed us hard for the whole 60 minutes.

“I was glad our players kept their nerves and responded with experience and composure.

“This is the type of close hard-fought game we have to win if we want to go all the way in league and cup.”
