Eagles coach Fayemi rues semi-final loss

Coach Marc Fayemi couldn’t hide his disappointment after Ruislip Eagles were edged out in the EHA Cup semi-final.

In a tight match, Eagles ended up losing 26-24 to Warrington Wolves to miss out on a place in the final.

An even first half saw some solid defence from the Eagles, and the introduction 15 minutes before the break of Josh Da Silva made an immediate impact on the offense, with four goals scored.

However the loss of captain Hannes Mazur through injury just before half-time was a major blow and they trailed 16-15

Jeremie Boullanger made important saves to keep the Eagles in the game in the second half, and 20 minutes in the score was tied at 21-21.

Ruislip had opportunities to take the lead on many occasions as both playmakers Mark Hawkins and Marek Urban were setting the pace of the game but they failed to convert and it was Warrington who ended up pinching the match.

Fayemi said: “This was a disappointing result. Our expectations were high.

“It was a hard battle and the players were really into it, it’s a shame we let it slip out of our hands.

“We performed well in defence conceding only 10 goals in the second half, including four penalties, but it’s a pity that in the decisive moments we did not manage to score the important goals.

“We have to congratulate the Wolves who did a great job in beating us.”
