Coach rues defeat as Eagles title hopes end

Ruislip Eagles coach Marc Fayemi said his side were “outsmarted” in a 33-26 defeat to Warrington Wolves that ended their Super 8 title hopes.

Both sides started the day three points adrift of leaders London GD but, with games running out, only the winner would remain a realistic contender.

With that in mind, the Eagles started pretty well – but a two-minute suspension for an Eagles player changed the course of the game.

The Wolves managed the powerplay efficiently and turned a deficit into a 17-13 half-time lead.

Ruislip did not manage to improve in the second half and several technical mistakes, plus a lack of composure, cost them dearly.

The Tahraoui brothers, Rafik and Samir, scored 16 goals together as Warrington won the game comfortably.

Fayemi said: “We started well but they waited patiently to strike back and once they got the confidence they outsmarted us.

“We were poor in our attacking options with our usual two playmakers missing.”
