Points win leaves Groves in line for world title fight

Hammersmith’s George Groves remained on course for another world title shot with a resounding points win against Eduard Gutknecht.

The former British, European and Commonwealth champion, defending his WBA International super-middleweight title, dominated the fight at Wembley Arena, landing with a series of crisp combinations.

Groves, 28, wobbled the German in the fourth round and Gutknecht suffered a cut eye in the 10th but managed to last the distance.

Groves won by a wide margin, with two of the judges scoring the bout 119-109 in his favour and the other seeing it 119-110.

Having lost twice to Carl Froch and then on points to Badou Jack in previous world title challenges, Groves has won his last four contests in convincing fashion and is well placed for another shot.
