Groves ready for Di Luisa clash

Boxing - WBA and IBF Super Middleweight Title - Carl Froch v George Groves - Phones 4u Arena
George Groves believes he is on the right path to a world title challenge under new trainer Shane McGuigan.

The Hammersmith man returns to the ring on Saturday when he takes on Italian Andrea Di Luisa at the Copper Box in London’s Olympic Park.

Groves lost on a split points decision to Badou Jack in September in his last title bid, and has also been beaten twice by Carl Froch.

But he is hoping for a fresh start under McGuigan, beginning with the Di Luisa bout.

He said: “Shane is a great coach and an intelligent guy, he always gives you clear instructions at the right time.

“You can have the knowledge but it’s about getting it across to your fighter when he needs it.

“I just feel with a few wins, we’ll be on our way and challenging again. Shane’s the man for the job.”

Groves believes victory over Di Luisa would be the first step towards another shot at a belt, possibly against arch-rival and fellow West Londoner James DeGale, who holds the IBF belt.

He added: “I share a promoter with WBO champion Arthur Abraham, both WBA champions work with my promoter and the DeGale fight is there.

“I’ve come really close and a few things weren’t quite right in the last fight. I can’t fail next time.”
