Ouseph suffers defeat at French Open

Rajiv Ouseph’s French Open challenge ended at the second round as he was beaten by Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk.

Having beaten Sourabh Varma on Wednesday, Hounslow’s world number 30 crashed out in Paris to the Thai.

Ouseph led for much of the first game but saw his advantage gradually eroded before facing two game points against him at 18-20 down.

Saensomboonsuk, three places above Ouseph in the latest rankings, couldn’t make the most of them but sealed it when presented with a third opportunity.

The second game followed a similar pattern. Ouseph opened up a 10-5 lead but Saensomboonsuk battled back to 13-13 and never looked back.

He won six points in a row to take control and needed only one match point to wrap up a 22-20, 21-16 victory.

Ouseph is next in action at the German Open in Saarbrucken, when he will face Michal Rogalski of Poland on Tuesday.
