Feltham’s Rajiv Ouseph reached the quarter-finals of the French Open after eighth seed Parupalli Kashyap retired in the deciding game.

Ouseph had lost four of his last five meetings with the Commonwealth champion but took charge of the opening game with six points in a row to lead 10-4.

A run of five straight points helped him close it out 21-11 but Parupalli responded with a similarly dominant performance, taking it 21-13.

Ouseph, 23 in the latest world rankings, led 4-2 in the decider when Parupalli pulled out injured.

The west Londoner will meet either world number nine Wang Zhengming or Korea’s Lee Dong Keun in the quarters.
