Ouseph into Commonwealths last eight

Rajiv Ouseph saw off the challenge of Singapore’s Chao Huang to move into the quarter-finals of the men’s singles badminton at the Commonwealth Games.

Hounslow’s world number 27 emerged victorious in Thursday’s third round clash, 21-15, 21-5, in little over half an hour.

Huang, ranked 114 places lower, was the strongest opponent Ouseph had faced so far in the singles but could not stop the Englishman.

He will face Scot Kieran Merrilees in the last eight after the world number 90 and home favourite defeated Tony Murphy of Northern Ireland.

Ouseph already has a silver medal, after helping England to the final of the mixed team event, but is targeting gold in the men’s singles.
