Ouseph through after first-round upset

Hounslow’s Rajiv Ouseph pulled off a big upset in the first round of the men’s singles at the All England Championships in Birmingham, knocking out seventh seed Du Pengyu.

Ouseph saw off Du in straight games at the Hong Kong Open in November in their only previous meeting, and he showed it was no fluke by beating the Chinese player 21-16 11-21 21-14.

The Commonwealth silver medallist will now face Japan’s Kento Momota, ranked number 15 in the world, for a place in the quarter-finals.
