Stones boss praises departing Bentley

Wealdstone boss Gordon Bartlett has praised the professionalism of veteran midfielder Mark Bentley after the 36-year-old decided to leave the club.

The former Hayes and Yeading United captain joined Stones last October and was part of the squad that won promotion from the Ryman Premier Division.

However, with no guarantee of first-team football next season, plus increased work commitments and the extra travelling involved in Conference South, the ex-Gillingham man has decided to move on.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett said: “He has really enjoyed his time at the club and wishes us all well for the coming campaign.

“Likewise we wish Mark all the very best; his professional attitude on and off the pitch in helping us win the league last season was plain to see.

“It was unfortunate that fitness meant that Mark didn’t get the minutes he undoubtedly deserved and we totally understand his difficulty with the travelling and wanting to play at this stage of his career.”

Bentley’s career, which has spanned three decades, made his name at Aldershot and also played for Gravesend, Dagenham, Southend and Cambridge, before joining Hayes and Yeading in 2011.

He left at the end of the 2012-13 campaign and was briefly with Boreham Wood before being snapped up by Bartlett.
