United and Stones suffer first defeats

Basingstoke Town 2 Hayes and Yeading United 0

Hayes and Yeading suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten at the Camrose.

Two former United players combined for the opening goal as Tom Bird delivered in a corner which was headed home by Manny Williams.

Late in the first half, Basingstoke doubled their lead when another ex-United striker Liam Enver-Marum hit the post and Simon Dunn tucked away the rebound.

United boss Phil Babb introduced former Bristol Rovers forward Joe Anyinsah during the second half but the changes failed to have the necessary impact.

Wealdstone 1 Farnborough 2/strong>

Wealdstone’s unbeaten start to life as a Conference South club also came to an end with a home loss to Farnborough.

Gordon Bartlett’s side fell behind on 19 minutes when they failed to clear a corner and Matt Ball curled home.

Ball then hit a firm volley from distance into the bottom corner just before the break to put the visitors in command.

Scott McGleish pulled one back deep into stoppage time but it was too little too late and the Stones lie 15th as one of only three teams yet to win in the division.

Ryman Premier Division round-up

Hampton and Richmond Borough suffered another punishing home defeat as they were crushed 4-0 by Grays Athletic.

Jay Leader put Grays in front on 21 minutes and Jamie Guy doubled the advantage midway through the second half.

Lloyd Harrington made it 3-0 with five minutes to play and a Billy Jeffreys own goal at the death rubbed further salt into the wounds.

Incredibly, it is the third time in as many home games that Hampton have conceded four and they sit bottom of the Ryman Premier with a -15 goal difference after five matches.

A dramatic last 15 minutes saw Harrow Borough twice come from behind against Witham Town.

Ola Williams’s goal gave the hosts a half-time lead cancelled out by Josh Mayhew’s penalty just before the hour mark.

Anthony Page’s 75th minute own goal put the newly-promoted visitors in front for the first time but Steve Butterworth equalised.

Ryan Charles then thought he’d won it for Witham with a goal eight minutes from time, only for Franny Otira to salvage a point for Harrow.

Hendon were held to a 1-1 draw at East Thurrock United.

The Greens took the lead in the 35th minute through Kezie Ibe’s third goal of the season, but the home side equalised midway through the second period courtesy of a Sam Latchmere goal.

There is a full programme of non-League action on Bank Holiday Monday.
