Striker Benyon joins Hayes and Yeading

Hayes and Yeading United have signed Torquay striker Elliot Benyon on a month-long loan deal.

Benyon, 27, was a regular in the Gulls side relegated from League Two last season, but has struggled for appearances in the Conference Premier.

His arrival strengthens a United attack which has only scored four goals in the last seven Conference South matches.

This will be the first time Benyon has played at a lower level than the Conference Premier since he began his career at Bristol City in 2006.

He had loan spells that season in the Conference Premier with both St. Albans City and Crawley before beginning his first spell at Torquay in 2007.

Benyon’s goals helped the club back into League Two and his record of 24 goals over the following two seasons earned him a move up to League One, first with Swindon and then Wycombe.

Neither move was a success and he dropped back into League Two when he joined Southend in 2011, before returning to Torquay in 2013.

In the last two-and-a-half seasons, Benyon has scored only seven goals in 72 games and has struggled with a knee injury at times.

He was placed on the transfer list in the summer, but has remained with Torquay and was involved as recently as Boxing Day, when he came off the bench against Bristol Rovers.
