Sorry Stones slump after keeper drama

Concord Rangers 4 Wealdstone 2

The pressure increased on winless Wealdstone after defeat to a Concord side forced to field an outfield player in goal for a large part of the match.

The signs looked promising for Stones after they went on front on 30 minutes through Scott McGleish and then Concord keeper Jamie Butler went off injured, defender Jack Lampe donning the gloves.

But disaster struck in the last few minutes of the first half as goals from Jordan Chiedozie and Steve Cawley gave Concord the lead at the break.

Stones were unable to test the stand-in keeper and the hosts rubbed salt into the wound, Gary Ogilvie making it 3-1 on 74 minutes and Lewis Taafe adding a late fourth.

Luke Pigden pulled one back in injury time but bottom of the table Stones have now picked up just four points from nine games since promotion.

Hayes & Yeading United 0 Ebbsfleet United 2

Hayes & Yeading United were also involved in goalkeeper drama as they were beaten by 10-man Ebbsfleet.

Just after the half hour mark, Ebbsfleet had keeper Preston Edwards sent-off for handling outside the box, although unlike Concord they were able to bring on a specialist substitute.

The staff shortage didn’t hamper the visitors though as Charlie Sheringham netted just before half-time and changes couldn’t spark Hayes and Yeading into life.

Anthony Cook sealed the points for Ebbsfleet seven minutes from time.

FA Cup first qualifying round

An FA Cup exit to league rivals VCD Athletic proved to be the final straw for Hampton and Richmond joint bosses Paul Barry and Darren Powell, who stepped down after the match.

James Duckworth’s double put the hosts 2-0 up but two goals in as many minutes early in the second half, from George Wells and Paris Mason, drew Hampton level.

But Lea Dawson’s strike, 12 minutes from time, sent VCD through and sparked a change in the dugout at the Beveree.

Harrow Borough emerged triumphant from a west London derby with AFC Hayes, who pushed their higher-division opponents all the way.

Marc Charles-Smith’s early penalty was cancelled out by AFC Hayes’ Tobi Akihjirin, but Jake Gilbert and Spencer Bellotti scored either side of half-time to put Harrow in command.

Akihjirin netted again to make for a nervy last 15 minutes but Harrow survived to book their place in the second qualifying round, and end the hosts’ ambitions.

Leon Smith scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half as Hendon saw off AFC Rushden and Diamonds.

Smith beat several defenders before his shot was deflected in and he also hit the bar, although debutant keeper Ben McNamara prevented the United Counties League from forcing a replay with two excellent saves.

Of the other west London teams in action, Uxbridge are also through after a 6-0 thrashing of Bedfont and Feltham, Craig Tomkins scoring twice in the first six minutes.

Greenford-based Spartan South Midlands League side London Tigers stunned Ryman Division One North outfit Brightlingsea Regent 1-0 to reach the second qualifying round for the first time since their merger in 2006.

Northwood will also be in the hat for Monday’s draw, but they face a replay at home on Tuesday after holding divisional rivals Barton Rovers 1-1.
