Late goal denies Stones Cup progress

Wealdstone 1 Concord Rangers 1

Wealdstone came within seconds of a guaranteed spot in the FA Cup third qualifying round only to be denied by an equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Joe Turner converted a cross shortly before half-time to give Stones the lead and they could have made it 2-0 in the second half only for Michael Malcolm to miss when it looked easier to score.

Wealdstone keeper Jonathan North made a couple of good stops to keep Concord at bay, but he was beaten by Joe Gardner’s effort deep into injury time.

Stones now face a replay at the Aspect Arena on Tuesday night.

Hendon 4 Leiston 1

Hendon cruised through with victory over Ryman Premier Division rivals Leiston.

They went ahead after just 40 seconds when Leon Smith curled a shot into the top corner and the lead was doubled just before half-time by Andre Da Costa, his first goal for the club.

Midway through the second half Dave Diedhiou slammed the ball home to make it 3-0 and, although Leiston pulled a goal back five minutes from time, Kezie Ibe completed the scoring by rounding the keeper and finishing with aplomb.

VCD Athletic 0 Harrow Borough 4

Harrow Borough were also convincing winners as they thrashed Ryman Premier basement dwellers VCD Athletic to earn their spot in Monday’s draw.

Lewis Driver grabbed the opener midway through the first half and netted his second just before the break.

Two goals in the first six minutes of the second half, from Marc Charles-Smith and Ben Long, underscored Harrow’s superiority against the team that put Hampton and Richmond out in the previous round.

Bromley 5 Uxbridge 1

Uxbridge briefly dreamed of an FA Cup shock when they equalised against Conference South high-flyers Bromley – but a red card and three goals in the last eight minutes saw them on the wrong end of a harsh hiding.

Kevin Warner quickly cancelled out Duncan Culley’s opener for Bromley and Uxbridge came close to taking the lead only for Matty Woods to drag wide.

A Danny Waldren free-kick put the hosts back in front on 38 minutes and Uxbridge were up against it when Dave Thomas was sent off, with Damien Scannell, Jordan Robertson and Adam Birchall netting late on.

Needham Market 5 London Tigers 2

London Tigers’ FA Cup adventure also ended in a heavy defeat at Ryman Division One North leaders Needham Market.

Sam Newson and Ryan Crisp had Needham Market 2-0 up at half-time, with Crisp seemingly putting the game beyond doubt shortly after the break.

The Greenford-based Tigers scored on 72 and 77 minutes, through Terence Cariba and Ayoub Amellal, to give them hope but Lamell Howell and Ace Howell both struck late on to shatter the visitors’ hopes of forcing a replay.

Hayes and Yeading 0 St Albans City 1

Hayes and Yeading fell at the first hurdle on Sunday as they were beaten by St. Albans.

Both teams had efforts cleared off the line either side of the break before Lee Chappell struck for the Saints on 56 minutes.

United had their chances in both halves and saw a penalty appeal turned down but they were unable to break the visitors down.

Ryman Premier Division round-up

Alan Dowson’s turnaround of Hampton and Richmond continues as they won 1-0 at AFC Hornchurch.

Luke Wanadio struck the only goal of the game on 27 minutes to make it 10 points out of a possible 12 under the new manager.

It lifts the Beavers, who were in the relegation zone when Dowson took over, up to 12th.
