Hendon’s promotion dreams are dashed

Hendon’s promotion dreams ended with defeat to Margate in Sunday’s Ryman League play-off final.

A crowd of 1,228 packed into Harrow’s Earlsmead ground as Gary McCann’s side, unbeaten in 25 matches, hoped to reach Conference South.

But they were up against it from the 14th minute when Aaron Morgan was sent-off for a challenge on Tambeson Eyong.

Hendon were upset by the decision but they battled hard with 10 men, keeper Ben McNamara making several saves, only for former Hampton & Richmond striker Ryan Moss to open the scoring six minutes before half-time.

The Greens couldn’t really muster a threat on Margate’s goal, with ex-Hayes and Yeading defender Charlie Wassmer outstanding at the back, and Margate saw out the win.
