Ex-Hayes and Yeading man joins Stones

Wealdstone have further bolstered their ranks by signing former Hayes and Yeading forward Tom Collins.

The 21-year-old, who has been relegated with three different clubs in the last three seasons, joins the Stones from Conference Premier club Hyde United.

He scored four times in 18 appearances last season, while tasting Conference South football in loan spells with Bishop’s Stortford and Tonbridge Angels, experience which will stand the newly-promoted Stones in good stead next term.

But it is with Hayes and Yeading where Collins first made his name. He joined United from Stevenage in 2011, scoring eight goals as the club were relegated from the Conference Premier.

He remained in non-League’s top flight by signing for Stockport County, finding the net once in 19 appearances but again suffering the drop.

And the pattern repeated itself last season. Collins scored three times in his first four games after joining Hyde but found himself out of favour in November, when he was farmed out to Bishop’s Stortford.

In January, he moved to Tonbridge for the rest of the campaign – only to be relegated with the Angels as well.

Collins is the second Stones signing since promotion, after defender Carl Martin rejoined the club from Macclesfield.
