Robson extends contract at Middlesex

England opener Sam Robson has signed a one-year extension to his Middlesex contract.

The deal means the Australian-born batsman will be at Lord’s until the end of the 2016 season.

The 25-year-old’s form in county cricket earned him a Test debut against Sri Lanka in June, and he scored a century in the second match of the series at Headingley.

Robson went on to average just over 30 by the end of the series against India and he has been selected for the England Lions’ tour of South Africa this winter.

Robson said: “I am delighted to sign a new contract with Middlesex, especially after what has been an incredible 12 months for me.

“I am looking forward to building on this and am sure my best is yet to come.”

Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser added: “Sam is the sort of player any club would want to build their future around and we always enjoy having him in our team.

“During the past four years he has developed into a high-quality cricketer and his consistent performances for Middlesex were rightly rewarded with selection for England’s Test side.”
