Rain wipes out third day at Northwood

Close, day three: Somerset 185-8 trail Middlesex 283 by 98 runs

The third day between Middlesex and Somerset at Merchant Taylor’s School was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The umpires took numerous looks at the outfield throughout the day but persistent rain prevented any play.

Last year, the same ground suffered an entire four-day washout when Middlesex were due to host Sussex.

In other news, Middlesex wicket-keeper John Simpson has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
