Middlesex draw as rain wipes out last day

Durham 568-9d drew with Middlesex 330 & 90-2
(Durham 12 pts, Middlesex 9 pts)

Middlesex remain top of the County Championship after no play was possible on the final day of their match at Chester-le-Street.

The visitors were 90-2 following-on overnight, still 148 runs short of making Durham bat again.

Persistent rain meant there was no chance to even have an inspection and with dark clouds still looming over the Riverside, the two teams shook hands on a draw in the pavilion.

Middlesex are five points clear of Yorkshire, and 12 points ahead of third-placed Somerset, although both have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Sam Robson will find out on Thursday if he is in line for his first England cap.

The Australian-born batsman is one of a number of candidates to open the batting with captain Alastair Cook when England take on Sri Lanka in the first Test next week.
