Trotta leaves Fulham to return to Italy

Fulham striker Marcello Trotta has returned to Italy and signed a permanent deal with Serie B side AS Avellino.

The 22-year-old made only three first-team appearances for the Whites in more than four years at the club, but did score 22 goals during two loan spells with Brentford.

He famously missed an injury-time penalty on the last day of the 2012-13 season which would have almost certainly earned Brentford automatic promotion.

However, he rejoined the Bees on loan last season and his goals helped them reach the Championship at the second time of asking.

A former Napoli and Manchester City youth team player, Trotta moved to Fulham in 2011 but saw only 32 minutes of first-team action.

He made one Premier League appearance, as a very late substitute at Bolton in April 2012, and was also brought on in an FA Cup tie at Everton and in the League Cup at Sheffield Wednesday.

In addition to Brentford, Trotta had loan spells at Wycombe, Watford, and Barnsley.
