Time was right to drop Button, says Fulham boss

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has insisted the time was right to drop David Button, who was left out for the win over Ipswich.

The keeper made a string of errors in the defeat at Derby in midweek and was replaced by Marcus Bettinelli, who looks likely to keep his place.

Jokanovic said: “David Button is a fantastic man and made a fantastic job in the previous 40 games.

“He is a professional and took the decision like normal and I am sure he will be ready in the future. If the team needs him, he will be available.

“It’s part of football. This is my job. I always make the decision that is best for the team.

“I took the decision and Marcus Bettinelli completed one very good performance. He must be happy with this 90 minutes.

“We were so close to taking a clean sheet but I expect in the next game we can take a clean sheet.”
