Mitrovic gives Fulham vital victory at Hillsborough

Sheff Wed 0 Fulham 1

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 78th-minute goal continued Fulham’s brilliant run and moved them to within just two points of second-placed Cardiff.

The on-loan Newcastle striker blasted home from close range after being found by Ryan Sessegnon’s cross.

It was Mitrovic’s ninth goal in as many games for the Whites, who are now unbeaten in 19 league matches.

Fulham hit the woodwork and had a goal disallowed during the first half at Hillsborough.

They thought they had gone ahead when Kevin McDonald’s cross was nudged in by Sheyi Ojo, but the offside flag was raised.

And the home side had another let-off when Sessegnon’s cross from Mitrovic’s cross landed on top of the bar.

Ojo also had an effort saved by keeper Joe Wildsmith, who produced a stunning save to deny Mitrovic as Fulham continued to threaten before the interval.

They were enduring a frustrating second half before Mitrovic pounced in emphatic fashion.
