‘Petulant’ Stafylidis annoys Fulham boss

Kit Symons made no excuses for Kostas Stafylidis after the Greek was sent off during Fulham’s 3-0 home defeat against Leeds.

Having just been booked for dissent, Stafylidis was shown a second yellow card only a minute later following a wild challenge on Sam Byram, leaving the hosts with 10 men.

Symons was clearly angry with the player – and confirmed that Whites striker Ross McCormack will be assessed after suffering a knee injury during the game.

“Players sent off certainly doesn’t help. It was a silly, stupid, petulant thing to do,” said the Fulham boss.

“The first one, talking to the linesman, 100% deserved a booking. It’s absolutely ridiculous – there’s no need for that whatsoever.

“The second one, so soon after the first booking, was rash. He dived in, It was rash and petulant.”

McCormack and fellow ex-Leeds man Matt Smith were unable to take several chances that came Fulham’s way and they are only one place above the relegation zone, albeit with a six-point cushion.

“We need three wins [to stay up} and it’s down to us to go and get them,” Symons said.
