McCormack salvages a point for Fulham

Ross McCormack’s second-half goal earned Fulham a third successive draw and took them another step closer to confirming their Championship survival.

Striker Matt Derbyshire put Rotherham ahead on three minutes when he forced the ball home at the near post after Fulham failed to clear their lines.

The Millers went close three more times in the closing stages of a dreadful first half for the Whites, with Derbyshire hitting the outside of the post just before the break.

But McCormack rescued a vital point when he fired into the far corner on 66 minutes.

Fulham got off to the worst possible start when Derbyshire capitalised on defensive hesitation and prodded the ball into the corner.

But they almost hit back when Matt Smith’s hooked volley from a corner was cleared off the line.

Derbyshire came close to doubling Rotherham’s lead on three occasions, forcing keeper Marcus Bettinelli into two good saves before hitting the post.

Bryan Ruiz also went close for the home side, who were were booed off at half-time.

Fulham began the second half with more impetus and their pressure paid off when McCormack equalised after the hour mark.

Scott Parker nudged on a Smith knock-down and the striker swiveled before sending a low drive into the far corner for his 14th league goal of the season.

Fulham had further chances to take three points – McCormack almost turning provider when his cross was headed over by Tim Hoogland late on.
